Are you grappling with sleep-related issues and contemplating a home sleep study to monitor your sleep patterns? Home sleep study devices diagnose sleep disorders from the comfort of your own home.  Results are comparable to in-lab sleep studies and are much easier and faster for the patient.

At Sleep Therapeutics, we recognize that your journey to better sleep is as unique as you are. We understand the significance of customizing your sleep study experience to fit your schedule and lifestyle. That’s why we offer two distinct pathways for sleep studies: our Virtual Clinic, which provides a fully remote experience, and our physical brick-and-mortar locations. For those who prefer a hybrid approach, we also provide the flexibility to combine both options.

In addition to our commitment to personalized care, we acknowledge that your choice of a sleep study device can significantly impact your overall experience. That’s why we provide a choice between two leading home sleep study devices: the WatchPAT One and the Alice NightOne.  By the end of this article, you’ll have a clearer understanding of which device and pathway might be the right choice for you.

Purpose and Usage:

WatchPAT One: This device is designed for the assessment of sleep disorders, particularly obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). It measures multiple parameters, including peripheral arterial tone (PAT), heart rate, and oxygen saturation, to provide insights into your sleep quality.

Alice NightOne:  The Alice NightOne is also primarily used for diagnosing sleep disorders, including OSA. It collects data on airflow, effort, and oxygen levels during sleep.

Ease of Use:

WatchPAT One: Known for its user-friendly design, the WatchPAT One is a wrist-worn device that requires minimal setup. It’s comfortable to wear and easy to set up and use.

Alice NightOne: The Alice NightOne is a small device that you wear on your chest, including nasal cannulas, an effort band, and a pulse oximeter. Setting up the Alice NightOne might be slightly more involved due to the additional components.

Data Collection:

WatchPAT One: This device uses peripheral arterial tone (PAT) technology, which measures changes in arterial tone to assess sleep quality. It provides a comprehensive analysis of your sleep, including sleep stages, heart rate, and oxygen saturation. Your sleep data will be interpreted by a board-certified physician and results are delivered by a member of our Care Team.

Alice NightOne: The Alice NightOne measures airflow, effort, and oxygen levels. It’s capable of detecting apneas, hypopneas, and other respiratory events. However, it may not provide as detailed sleep stage information as the WatchPAT One. Your sleep data will be interpreted by a board-certified physician and results are delivered by a member of our Care Team.

Comfort and Wearability:

WatchPAT One: The WatchPAT One‘s wrist-worn design is comfortable for most users. It’s designed to minimize interference with your sleep position.

Alice NightOne: While generally comfortable, some users may find wearing the Alice NightOne on their chest slightly less convenient than a wrist-worn device. The included nasal cannulas may also take some getting used to.

Cost:

WatchPAT One: This device is quickly and conveniently shipped to your door for $120.

Alice NightOne: There is no upfront cost for the Alice NightOne. However, we do have a waiting list for this device, wait times vary by location.

Recommendations:

Choose the WatchPAT One if you prefer a wrist-worn, user-friendly device that offers detailed sleep stage analysis. This device can be used whether you choose a Virtual experience or decide to visit one of our clinic locations. Once you have the device, you decide which night you wish to use it. The data is sent directly to us through the secure Cloud and is assigned to a physician for interpretation. There is no need to return the device to us, options for recycling are available.   Virtual results are typically available within 2-3 weeks.

Opt for the Alice NightOne if you’re comfortable with a chest-worn device and primarily need data related to respiratory events. This device is only available in our clinics with an in-person consultation. You will take the device home following your consultation, use it that evening, and return it to the clinic the following morning before 10:00 am.  Clinic results are subject to availability of appointments in each location.

Conclusion:

Both the WatchPAT One and the Alice NightOne are valuable tools for diagnosing sleep disorders from the comfort of your home. The choice between them ultimately depends on your specific needs and comfort preferences. If you value a fast, user-friendly experience, the WatchPAT One might be a better choice.  On the other hand, if you are comfortable with the design of the Alice NightOne, it could be a suitable option, especially if an in-person consultation is preferable.
